Bacon Wrapped Smokies

Bacon Wrapped Smokies – these bacon wrapped smokies with brown sugar and spices make for the perfect appetizer! Smoky, savory, sweet and delicious!

Appetizers are probably my favorite food group. We love snacking and there is definitely no shame in having appetizers for dinner some nights. They are just fun, easy, and sometimes so much better than cooking a full meal!

Bacon wrapped smokies are an old classic that everyone has had and loves. I put a little twist on it by adding some spices to the mix. Traditionally it is just brown sugar or maybe brown sugar and black pepper. But I like to mix it up and give them a little bit more flavor.

Don’t worry when I say I like to add more spices. It isn’t like I am emptying the spice rack or using anything you don’t already have on hand. I just like to add a couple extra things to give them a little more depth of flavor.

Everyone loves sweet and spicy, but I like to add a little bit more savory in there to.

  1. You need to preheat your oven to 425º F. You want it nice and hot to get the bacon super crispy. Line your baking sheet with foil. The brown sugar caramelizes as it bakes, and this makes clean up so much easier!
  2. Separate your bacon into pieces, and cut the strips into thirds. That should be long enough to wrap around each lil’ smokie without a little of extra.
  3. Wrap each strip of bacon around a lil’ smokie and secure with a toothpick.
  4. In a bowl mix together the brown sugar with the cayenne, garlic powder, paprika and black pepper.
  5. Put each lil’s smokie in the brown sugar mixture and make sure it is well coated. Place on your lined baking sheet.
  6. Once they are all coated put them in the oven for 15 minutes. Flip over and cook for an additional 10-12 minutes until crispy.
  7. Remove from the baking sheet and serve with your favorite dipping sauce!

Storage

If you have leftovers don’t worry, you can store them in an airtight container for 3-4 days and they will still be great!

How Do You Reheat Bacon Wrapped Smokies

These are really easy to reheat in your oven, air fryer or toaster oven. Put in at about 350º F for 15 minutes and they will be hot, crispy and delicious. Just check on them to make sure they don’t brown too quickly while reheating.

Can I Make These Ahead

Yes, you can. You want to actually bake them the day you serve them though. But you can wrap the bacon around them, and even coat them in the spice mixture. Place them on the baking tray covered in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Then follow the baking instructions when you are ready to serve!

What Goes With Lil’ Smokies

My family likes a dip with just about anything! So we have a couple dips that I like to serve with these smokies for people to enjoy.

How To Keep Smokies Hot For A Party

These really are best served hot out of the oven. So if you can put them out right as guests arrive, or even pull them out a few minutes after when people are starting to eat. Otherwise you can put them in a crockpot over warm, and they will stay warm. They won’t be quite as crispy, but they are still delicious!
