Cookies and Cream Ice Cream – rich and creamy homemade vanilla ice cream that is loaded with lots of Oreo cookie pieces!
This post is sponsored by Imperial Sugar. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
Nothing beats homemade ice cream. Not only is it rich and creamy, but you get to actually have pieces of cookie in each bite. One thing I hate about store bought ice cream is the lack of mix-ins. It says it is cookies and cream ice cream, but it is really just vanilla ice cream with some cookie crumbs that you can barely taste, no actually cookies.
So today we are making our own that has real chunks of Oreo pieces in there, and it will top pretty much any other ice cream out there!

Homemade Ice Cream
When you make homemade ice cream with an ice cream maker there are really two options.
Custard Base – this has eggs in the recipe, and you cook it over a low heat to make a thick custard. It is cooked until you reach a certain temperature, so the eggs are cooked and it is completely safe to eat. This is makes a super rich, thick, and creamy ice cream. Because you are heating the mixture, you also have to cool it back down before adding it to your ice cream maker. So it is a much longer process.
Philadelphia Style – this is basically just heavy cream and whole milk combined with sugar and flavoring that you pour into your ice cream maker as is. There is no cooking involved, so it is much faster. It is creamy and delicious, but not quite as rich as the custard base.

For this Cookies and Cream Ice Cream we are using the Philadelphia Style, so you don’t have to worry about cooking anything, and you can be enjoying ice cream in no time!
What’s In Cookie and Cream Ice Cream
- Whole Milk
- Heavy Cream
- Sugar
- Vanilla Extract
- Salt
- Oreo

How To Make Cookies and Cream Ice Cream
- In a large bowl whisk together milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla and salt until it is well combined and the sugar is dissolved.
- With your ice cream maker on, slowly more mixture into the ice cream maker and let it churn according to the package directions.
- Once it is done, transfer it to a large bowl and mix chopped Oreo cookies.
- Place in a freezer safe dish, I like to use a loaf pan, cover and freezer for for at least 1 hour for it to firm up.

My favorite summer treat is a big bowl of ice cream with Hot Fudge Sauce. Trust me, so much better than any store bought one there is!
