This Cottage Cheese Queso is a high protein, creamy, cheesy, and delicious dip that just takes 4 ingredients to make! And trust me, it DOESN”T taste like cottage cheese!

I could not have been more skeptical of the Tik-Tok viral Cottage Cheese Queso trend. I have NEVER been a fan of cottage cheese, so having it be a trend and used in just about every type of food has me questioning everything! But I finally broke down, and I am so glad I did!!

This Queso only has 4 ingredients, and it is high in protein, creamy, cheesy, loaded with flavor and delicious! You can serve warm or cold, and either are absolutely delicious!

Healthy Queso

Using cottage cheese to make queso really bumps up the nutrition and can make it a “better” choice that traditional White Queso. It is loaded with protein, and can be lower in fat, depending on the cottage cheese you use. Plus it only takes 4 ingredients, so you can make it in minutes and keep what you need on hand at all times!

What Does Cottage Cheese Queso Taste Like? I was very worried when I made this for the first time, but it tastes almost like the base of classic Taco Dip, but with a little more cheesy flavor. It isn’t queso like you think of with Crock Pot Queso that is super cheesy. But you would NEVER guess there cottage cheese in it.

What You’ll Need

Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post for the FULL PRINTABLE recipe card.

  • Cottage Cheese – I used low fat to make this, but use whatever you like.
  • Cheese – Cheddar or Pepper Jack are the ones we like the best
  • Chopped Green Chiles – a small can gives a ton of flavor to this queso
  • Taco Seasoning – a store bought packet or Homemade Taco Seasoning

You can get creative with what you want to mix in! You could add more cheese, use different types, add jalapeno to make it spicy, add salsa or Rotel tomatoes to give it a different flavor!

How To Make Cottage Cheese Queso

  1. Add all of the ingredients to the base of your food processor or blender.
  2. Puree for about 60-90 seconds to get everything to blend together and be smooth.
  3. Pour into a bowl and serve!

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • Want it warm? No problem, just heat it very slowly. If using the microwave use 50% power, if using the oven use 325º F, set a crockpot to low and stir often. The cottage cheese can cause things to separate if you heat quickly, so low and slow for a hot and bubbly queso.
  • Get creative with toppings. I topped with a little cilantro and diced tomatoes, but fresh Pico de Gallo makes a great addition. Or if you like it spicy you could use jalapenos.
  • Make sure to completely blend or puree this dip. Cottage cheese really does become something entirely different once you puree it and get it completely smooth. You have just a creamy and cheese ingredient.
  • The chopped green chiles do not make this spicy. If you want it spicy add jalapenos or hot sauce to the blender when making.
