When it comes to cold weather there are a few things that just must happen. A comforting bowl of soup is one of them, and a steaming cup of hot chocolate is another. And when you can flavor your treats like hot chocolate it is even better! Puppy Chow or Muddy Buddies are one of my favorite treats, they have been a staple since I was a little kid. So flavoring them with hot chocolate and giving them a winter twist is just a fun idea!

Recipe Tips & Suggestions

  • Make It A Gift. This makes a very fun and easy gift for the holidays. Fill a glass jar with the mix, tie a festive ribbon around it, and maybe even attach a package of hot cocoa mix to it.
  • Hot Chocolate Mix. You can use whatever hot chocolate mix you like. It can be the kind with the little marshmallows or without. Just something you like the taste of is all you need!
  • Get Creative. You really can get very creative with what you mix into this recipe. Add festive sprinkles if you want something for Christmas. Add mini peanut butter cups for sno-cap candy for something extra. Add pretzel pieces for sweet and salty. Add red and green M&M’s for something festive. So many ways to make it exactly what you want for the occasion.

Storage

Store your hot chocolate muddy buddies in an airtight container. They will last for 2-3 days before the marshmallows start to get hard.

You can also freeze them! I would add the marshmallows when you take them out of the freezer though, or they won’t be quite the same. Store in an airtight container for 2-3 months.
