Amaretto Sour Recipe – a classic cocktail that is so easy to make an absolutely delicious! With just 4 ingredients it is so simple to make, it will become your go-to cocktail!

Sometimes I feel like classic cocktails are just taken for granted.  You know that you like a Gin & Tonic, but don’t necessarily make it at home.  For some reason a lot of people just reserve beer and wine for at home.  Well it is time to change that!

An amaretto sour is a classic cocktail that is sweet and make from an almond flavored liqueur; amaretto. The best part of making them at home is you control the sweetness.  If you don’t like it super sweet, you can make it more tart.

What is Amaretto

It is a sweet Italian liqueur that originated in Saronno, Italy.  It was originally flavored with bitter almonds, but over time that has changed. Some brands now use peach stones, apricot stones or almonds. It is sweet and light enough you can drink it alone, or add to a mixed drink or even coffee.

Amaretto Sour Ingredients

  • Amaretto
  • Lemon Juice
  • Simple Syrup
  • Lemon-Lime Soda

Just 4 simple ingredients make up this drink.  Amaretto is sweet on its own, so you can adjust the amount of simple syrup to your taste.

How to Make an Amaretto Sour

This recipe is so simple to make.  You don’t have to use a cocktail shaker for it if you don’t have one.  You can easily just stir the ingredients together in a glass. But if you have one, break it out!  I love how cold and crisp a cocktail shaker makes a drink.

All you have to do is add the amaretto, lemon juice and simple syrup together and shake!  Pour over ice and then top with a splash of lemon-lime soda.  The traditional garnish is a slice of orange and a maraschino cherry, but honestly if you don’t have that you aren’t going to be missing anything.  So don’t let that be the reason you don’t make this drink!

This cocktail is easy to make for a crowd as well.  Just mix the amaretto, simple syrup, and lemon juice together in a pitcher.  Then when it is time to serve just add a splash of lemon-lime soda to each glass.

This is such a simple cocktail to make and definitely worth investing in a bottle of amaretto for.  You are going to be able to mix this up in just a minute any night of the week!
