I’m a sucker for a banana split sundae. When I figured out a way to fit all that goodness into a (nearly) no-bake pie, it was a game changer! I’ve been loving this banana split pie recipe. It has a cream cheese filling layered with ripe bananas, crushed pineapple, and whipped cream in a buttery graham cracker crust. Every bite is cool and creamy, and it’s easy to put together in minutes. Just add chocolate syrup and cherries!

Why You’ll Love This Banana Split Dessert

  • Banana split flavors. Ripe bananas, fluffy whipped cream, and crushed pineapple recreate all the delicious flavors of a classic banana split inside a crunchy cookie crust.
  • Quick. This banana split pie is easy to assemble in 20 minutes or less. 10 minutes, if you use a ready-made pie crust!
  • Make-ahead. If you’re looking for a party or potluck dessert, this banana split pie is great to assemble the day before. Just keep it in the fridge and add your banana split toppings before serving.
  • Customizable. Just like a traditional banana split, we have so much fun customizing this no-bake pie with our favorite garnishes and add-ons. Chocolate sauce, strawberry sauce, chopped nuts, and maraschino cherries are some easy favorites. Get creative!

Ingredients You’ll Need

I think the #1 reason why I love this banana split pie so much is that the ingredients are so simple. It doesn’t take much to pack in plenty of banana split flavor into a pie slice! Check out my notes here, and scroll down to the recipe card for a printable list with amounts.

  • Crust – I make a quick and easy graham cracker crust from crushed graham crackers, sugar, and melted butter. You can also make it with another kind of cookie, like Nilla wafers or chocolate wafers. If needed, save time with a store-bought 9” pie crust.
  • Cream Cheese – Choose full-fat cream cheese (the kind that comes in blocks) for the creamiest pie filling.
  • Whipped Topping –This can be Cool Whip or homemade stabilized whipped cream. You’ll need it for the filling and as a topping.
  • Bananas – You can’t make a banana split pie without bananas! Slice them before you start.
  • Crushed Pineapple – Make sure to drain it well,
  • Sauces – I use a combination of chocolate sauce and strawberry sauce (or homemade strawberry syrup). Caramel sauce is another good choice.
  • Garnishes – Chopped peanuts and maraschino cherries are the perfect classic finish, but you can top your banana split pie with any garnishes you’d like. Try chocolate chips, crushed cookies, chopped candy bars, etc.

How to Make Banana Split Pie

This pie is an almost no-bake dessert, with only 10 minutes of oven time needed to par-bake the crust. Or, it’s 100% no-bake if I use a store-bought or ready-made graham cracker crust instead! Follow the steps below, and scroll to the recipe card for printable instructions.

  • Prepare the crust. If you’re making your graham cracker pie crust from scratch, combine the ingredients and press them into a 9” pie plate. You’ll want to par-bake the crust at 350ºF for 10 minutes.
  • Add the pie filling. Once the crust is cool, whip cream cheese with sugar to make the filling. Fold in the whipped topping, and then spread the filling over the crust.
  • Add toppings. Layer over the sliced bananas, followed by the drained pineapple. You’ll finish with a final layer of whipped topping before chilling the pie in the fridge for 3-4 hours.
  • Serve. Garnish the pie with chocolate sauce, strawberry sauce, chopped nuts, and cherries before serving, and dig in!

Can I Make This Pie in Advance?

Yes! This banana split pie can be made a day in advance and kept in the fridge or frozen. The key is to really drain the pineapple well so that it doesn’t leak liquid into the filling while it sits. If I know I’ll be making this dessert ahead, I’ll pour the pineapple through a mesh strainer and press out the juices.

Whether you’re refrigerating or freezing the pie, I recommend leaving off garnishes like sauces and nuts until you’re ready to serve for best results.

Proper Storage

  • Refrigerate. Store the pie in an airtight container or tightly wrap it in plastic wrap. Leftovers will last 2-3 days in the fridge before the fruit starts to leak liquid into the pie.
  • Freeze. You can also freeze your banana split pie for up to 1 month. If possible, leave off the toppings and double-wrap the pie in plastic wrap or foil.
