Milkshakes are one of my favorite summer treats to make. They are so easy to transform ice cream I already have on hand into something extra special. And it only ever takes a few minutes.

This Brownie Milkshake combines a couple of my favorite things; Brownies and Ice Cream. You can go all out and use the homemade versions of them for an over the top treat. Or just use your favorite store bought versions for a quick and easy treat.

You will see that this recipe calls for vanilla ice cream, but you can easily mix that up if you want a more intense chocolate flavor or brownies with a coffee flavor or even a caramel swirl flavor. It really is up to you and anything that pairs with chocolate is going to be delicious!

What You’ll Need

Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post for the FULL PRINTABLE recipe card.

  • Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Milk – what type of milk you use is really up to you. I like to use a 2% or even whole milk so you get that rich and creaminess you expect from a milkshake. But really anything will work.
  • Brownie Pieces

For the brownies you really can use anything you would like. Bake up a pan of box mix brownies, use the brownie bites from the bakery section at the grocery store, or use your favorite Fudgy Brownies. You really just don’t want ones that have nuts or chocolate chip in them, you want to be able to blend it easily.

How To Make Brownie Milkshakes

  1. Prep the Glasses: For the pretty and over the top version, you can drizzle caramel sauce and chocolate syrup inside of your cups and then gently rotate them so the syrup swirls the inside of the glass.
  2. Make Shakes: Add the ice cream, milk, and 1 ½ cups up brownie pieces to your blender and blend for 30-45 seconds, or until smooth. If you want bigger chunks of brownie pieces, add them towards the end. But remember the bigger the pieces, the harder it will be to drink through a straw.
  3. Serve: Pour your milkshake into your glasses and add whipped cream and the rest of the brownie pieces on top before enjoying!

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • Any store bought ice cream you enjoy works great for this, You could use all dairy free ingredients if necessary as well. Or go over the top and try with Homemade Chocolate Ice Cream for a truly decadent treat.
  • How many brownie pieces you use is really up to you. If using vanilla ice cream, I like 1 1/2 cups, so you get that brownie flavor all throughout, but not over the top. If you want more brownie flavor you can add more. It really is up to you. It is a great use for those last couple of brownies in the pan that are past their prime.
  • This milkshake is designed to be easily drinkable, so it isn’t super thick. If you want a super thick milkshake that you need a spoon or a giant straw, you can start with half of the amount of milk and adjust from there to your liking.
  • Make Ahead? Unfortunately milkshakes really don’t refreeze well, so they are best served immediately after they are made..

Toppings

What you top your milkshake with is entirely up to you. You really could go basic and just pour into a glass and serve. But if you want over the top delicious. Top with Homemade Whipped Cream. Drizzle with Homemade Hot Fudge Sauce or caramel sauce. You could even top with a cherry.

But of course, you want to top with a few extra brownie pieces so you know what is in there.
