Air Fryer Hash Browns – crispy frozen hash browns in the air fryer are the perfect addition to your breakfast or just as a side dish!

I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite parts about going out for breakfast is getting restaurant style hash browns. No matter what I do at home, I have never been able to get them as crispy or delicious as they are at a restaurant.

Well using your air fryer changes all that! You can get super crispy hash browns, in the air fryer in no time. It will definitely take your weekend breakfast to a whole new level.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Super simple, really all you need is frozen shredded hash browns, a little olive oil spray and whatever seasonings you like.
  • You get crispy hash browns, but without all the grease and fat. It is the one problem with restaurant style hash browns is how greasy they are.
  • These are super hands off, so you can worry about making your eggs, bacon or whatever else you want to serve with these potatoes without having to constantly watch them.

What You’ll Need

  • Frozen Shredded Hash Browns
  • Olive Oil Spray
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Any other seasonings you like

To make this recipe I used a Cosori 5.8 Qt Air Fryer. It is big enough that you can fit plenty of food in, and the basket comes out so you can easily shake, stir, or flip whatever you are making.

How To Make Air Fryer Hash Browns

  1. Spread the frozen hash browns into the base of the air fryer basket. Spray well with the olive oil spray and season with salt and pepper. Add any additional seasonings here as well.
  2. Heat to 370º F and cook for 15 minutes.
  3. After 15 minutes, carefully try to flip the hash browns over. Spray well with oil, and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, until your desired crispiness.

Recipe Tips

  • If you want your hash browns more like restaurant style hash browns, you can use more oil. Instead of spraying when they are in the basket, mix them in a bowl with actual oil first. Then arrange and cook as directed. This will give you a little more of the classic taste you might be looking for.
  • Make sure your potatoes are frozen when you start. If they are thawed, they won’t crisp up as much and will be a little soggy.
  • You really can season however you like. I like a simple salt and pepper mix on mine, but you can add garlic powder, chili powder, or even season salt.
  • Like onions with your hash browns? Add chopped onions in with your potatoes, and they should be nice and soft with your potatoes.
  • Keep an eye on your potatoes. Each air fryer is a little different, so watch the time. If you want your less crispy, start with 12 minutes and then flip. Play around until you get exactly what you like.

What Goes With Air Fryer Hash Browns

You really can serve these with just about anything. Your classic eggs and Air Fryer Bacon would be a great idea. Or serve with some of these other breakfast favorites.

How Many Hash Browns Fit In The Air Fryer

That really depends on the size of your basket. In mine, I can fit about 10 ounces without over crowding it. So the normal size bag at the store is 30 oz. If I want to make the whole thing, I do 3 batches.

You want to have mostly a single layer, that isn’t too over crowded or thick. If you have too many in there, your potatoes won’t get crispy.

How Long Do Hash Browns Take In The Air Fryer

For a full batch of hash browns, it takes about 20 minutes. You start at 370º F for about 15 minutes, flip, and then cook for an additional 5 minutes or until they are crispy.

Can You Reheat Hash Browns In The Air Fryer

Yes, this is a great method to use. If you have leftover restaurant hash browns or you just happen to make too much of your own, use your air fryer to crisp them up and get them warm again. I like to cook at a little less heat than originally so you get them warm, without burning them. Usually 360º for about 5 minutes gets them hot and crispy again.
