I’ve officially stopped chasing the best homemade Big Mac Sauce because this is IT. It’s creamy, tangy, and maybe even better than the original! There’s nothing to prep, simply add everything to a bowl and stir. I make it whenever I’m hit with a craving for McDonald’s special sauce, and it tastes amazing on everything from homemade hamburgers to French fries. I’ve been skipping the store-bought burger sauce ever since I started making this homemade Big Mac Sauce, and I don’t think I’ll ever go back!
Why You’ll Love This Big Mac Sauce Recipe
- Flavorful. My homemade Big Mac Sauce is irresistibly creamy, and the flavors are just the right balance of sweet and tangy. Everything tastes so fresh and delicious. The bottled stuff just doesn’t compare!
- Adaptable. I love that this burger sauce is totally adaptable to taste. I’ll sometimes add a little ketchup for extra tang, Sriracha for spice, or I’ll make a smoky version with barbecue sauce. It’s super versatile!
- Quick. Have this sauce mixed and in the fridge in 5 minutes or less. It’ll stay fresh in there for up to 2 weeks!
What Is Big Mac Sauce?
Big Mac Sauce is McDonald’s famous burger sauce, made from mayo, pickles, mustard, and a few other “secret” seasonings. It’s similar to Thousand Island dressing, and sure, there are plenty of store-bought Big Mac Sauce dupes, but these are often packed with mystery ingredients and additives. This homemade recipe takes 5 minutes to make with pantry ingredients, and I know exactly what goes into it!
Ingredients You’ll Need
Another name for Big Mac Sauce is secret sauce, but there are no secrets here! Big Mac Sauce contains just a few ingredients, which I’ll cover below. You’ll find a printable list with amounts in the recipe card.
- Mayonnaise – This can be regular mayo or tangy Miracle Whip. For a lighter sauce, substitute Greek yogurt.
- Pickle Relish – I use sweet pickle relish but you can use dill pickle relish if you prefer.
- Dijon Mustard – Or yellow mustard.
- White Vinegar – White wine vinegar will work, too.
- Seasonings – Paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and white pepper. Black pepper works too, if you don’t mind the black flecks in the sauce.
How to Make Big Mac Sauce
Making homemade Big Mac Sauce couldn’t be easier. All you need to do is combine the ingredients and give them a good mix. That’s it! Afterward, you’ll want to refrigerate the sauce for at least 2 hours before you use it, to give the flavors a chance to mingle.
How to Use It
Obviously, homemade Big Mac Sauce makes the perfect burger topping for my favorite burger recipes. But there are so many other ways to use it! Here are some more easy ideas:
- Spread. Smear this sauce over hamburger buns and hot dogs. It’s even great as a sandwich spread or I’ll use it in these Big Mac wraps and cheeseburger quesadillas.
- Dip. Use this sauce as a dip for EVERYTHING. It’s delicious with French fries, potato wedges, chicken fries, homemade onion rings, or this crispy cheeseburger egg rolls.
- Dressing. Add a drizzle of special sauce to your next macaroni salad or potato salad. It also makes an easy salad dressing if you thin it out with milk. Try it on this Big Mac salad!
- Topping. This sauce is a tasty topping for roasted vegetables like Brussels sprouts and green beans, or you can drizzle it over a baked potato.
Storing Leftovers
Keep your homemade Big Mac Sauce covered in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. I usually give it a fresh stir before serving.
