Snack mixes are such and easy and fun way to incorporate into your holidays. You can do a Patriotic Party Mix that is sweet for the summer, you can do my family’s favorite Party Mix that we do every year at Christmas, or you can mix in some candy corn and make it perfect for the fall.

Chex Mix is so easy to add in whatever your favorites are! I used Corn Chex because they are my personal favorite, but you could use Rice Chex or one of their different flavors, or even use Life Cereal or Crispix. It is super versatile to use what you and your family like, or just have in your pantry already.

What You’ll Need

Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post for the FULL PRINTABLE recipe card.

  • Chex Cereal – I used corn chex, but use what you like
  • Bugles
  • Pretzels
  • Butter
  • Brown Sugar
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Candy Corn/Pumpkins – I used a bag of Harvest Mix, which was about 2 cups total of both mixed together.
  • Reese’s Pieces

How To Make Halloween Party Mix

  • Mix – In a large bowl mix together the cereal, Bugles and pretzels
  • Melt – In a small bowl melt the butter and then stir in the sugar and vanilla extract until it is well combined and the sugar is mostly dissolved. Pour over the cereal mixture, and gently stir until everything is evenly coated.
  • Bake – Spread the mixture onto a large baking sheet and bake for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.
  • Toss – Remove the tray from the oven and let it cool. Once it has cooled toss with the candy corn and Reese’s Pieces.

Recipe Tips

  • This recipe is very easy to scale up or down. Just double, triple or halve everything to get the amount you need for what you need it for.
  • You can FREEZE party mix if you want to save some for later. I often make a full batch, serve half right away and freezer the other half in a freezer safe bag for up to 2 months.
  • Let the party mix cool completely when you take it out of the oven. If you mix the candy in right away it will start to melt and then it will clump together. Especially if you use any chocolate mix-ins the chocolate will melt and make a mess.
  • Store your party mix in an airtight container for about 2 weeks.

What Other Mix-Ins Can I Use

This is where you can get really creative and use what you like! You can add in different sweet or savory options.

  • Sweet Mix-Ins – Mini peanut butter cups, fall colored M&M’s, candy eyes for Halloween, chocolate chips, marshmallows etc.
  • Salty Mix-Ins – cheese crackers, peanuts, oyster crackers, use pretzel sticks instead of the knots, Cheerios or other cereals, corn chips instead of Bugles…lots of options!

Does Chex Mix Need To Be Baked

Yes, it does. The butter mixture will just make the cereal snack mix soggy if you don’t make it. Baking it gives it the crunchy coating that you are looking for. So you definitely don’t want to skip it.
