It’s a tangy combination of cream cheese, sour cream, chopped pickles, and fresh dill that’s ready in minutes and so good. Pickle dip is delicious for dipping your favorite fresh veggies, potato chips, crackers, or even crispy chicken tenders. It’s also great as a spread for burgers and sandwiches. Let’s be honest, pickle dip tastes great with everything!

Ingredients You’ll Need
You can count the ingredients for this homemade dill pickle dip on one hand. I’ve included some quick notes below. Scroll down to the recipe card for a printable ingredients list.
- Cream Cheese – Softened to room temperature so that it’s easier to mix, see below.
- Sour Cream – I recommend full-fat sour cream. If needed, plain Greek yogurt is a great substitute.
- Pickles and Pickle Juice – You’ll need chopped dill pickles (the crunchier, the better!) and some pickle juice from the jar. Choose your favorite brand of dill pickles from the refrigerator section.
- Fresh Dill – You can also use dried dill, but I love using fresh dill sprigs. Chop them up to add to the dip and to use as a garnish.
How Do You Soften a Block of Cream Cheese?
Did you forget to take your cream cheese out of the fridge ahead of time? We’ve all been there. There are a couple of ways to soften cream cheese in a hurry. I’ve found that the easiest way is to submerge the sealed block of cream cheese in a bowl of warm water. It should soften up in 10-15 minutes.
How to Make Pickle Dip
Making a batch of fluffy, creamy pickle dip couldn’t be easier. Add the cream cheese, sour cream, pickles, pickle juice, and fresh dill to a mixing bowl, and fold everything together. Afterward, cover and place the dip into the fridge to chill for 2 hours. That’s it!
Tips and Variation Ideas
You’re going to love this foolproof pickle dip. These are my final tips for success, plus some simple variations.
- Chop the pickles up small. This way there will be plenty of pickle bits in each bite. Use a sharp knife, or you can speed things up with a manual veggie chopper.
- Use a hand mixer. To make this dip even easier, use a handheld mixer to combine the ingredients.
- Fresh vs. dried dill. Nothing beats fresh herbs in this dip. However, if you’re in a pickle (excuse the pun), you can substitute 1 teaspoon of dried dill for 1 tablespoon of fresh dill.
- Add ranch. To amp up the flavors in this pickle dip even more, stir in a packet of Ranch seasoning, or sprinkle in some homemade Ranch seasoning.
- Make it spicy. Swap out dill pickles for spicy pickles, and add a sprinkle of cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper flakes.
What to Serve With Pickle Dip
Pickle dip is the ultimate party appetizer! Pair it with a platter of veggies, pretzels, potato chips, pita bread, or crackers. We also love serving this dip on game day with a huge plate of crispy green bean fries, next to more snacks like BBQ chicken nachos and bacon-wrapped smokies.
For a weeknight meal, pickle dip is the perfect dipping sauce for chicken nuggets with a side of French fries. Or, you can use it as a spread for hamburgers, sandwiches, or chicken wraps.
How to Store
- Refrigerate. Store your pickle dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. The flavors actually get better with time!
- Freeze. Due to the cream cheese and sour cream, I don’t recommend freezing dairy-based dips. Luckily, it’s quick enough to make a fresh batch!
