Pizza bread puts a fun and easy spin on your next family pizza night or game day. Roll your favorite pizza toppings inside a soft pizza crust, bake, and slice!

Just like my air fryer pizza rolls, dunk these pizza bread slices in marinara sauce for a delicious and cheesy appetizer.

With just a few ingredients, this failproof pizza bread recipe is one of the best ways to change up your next pizza night. It’s ready in under 30 minutes and tastes amazing sliced and dipped in pizza sauce. My favorite version has melted mozzarella, spicy Italian sausage, and pepperoni. Of course, just like a classic pizza recipe, you can choose your toppings to make this pizza bread your own.

Why I Love This Easy Pizza Bread Recipe

  • All rolled up. Have your pizza bread ready for baking in 5 minutes. It’s a bit like a calzone, only instead of folding the pizza dough over the filling, we’re rolling this pizza crust up, stromboli-style.
  • Flavor-packed. The fillings are easy to customize, but my bread is filled with melted mozzarella cheese, juicy sausage, and spicy pepperoni. Classic and delicious!
  • Versatile. Pizza bread is great finger food for parties, and just as great packed in lunch boxes or enjoyed as a movie night snack during the week.

What You’ll Need

Here are some notes on the ingredients you need to make this satisfyingly cheesy pizza bread. Scroll to the recipe card below the post for a printable list with the amounts.

  • Pizza Dough – Save time with a Pillsbury pizza crust, or you can make homemade pizza dough.
  • Mozzarella Cheese – Freshly shredded mozzarella, or you can use another kind of cheese, like cheddar or provolone.
  • Italian Sausage – Cooked and crumbled Italian sausage makes this pizza bread extra hearty with tons of flavor. You can use mild or spicy sausage depending on what you like.
  • Pepperoni – Feel free to substitute pepperoni slices with salami or chorizo.
  • Egg – You’ll brush the outside of the dough with an egg wash for a glossy, golden-brown finish.
  • Seasonings – I like to sprinkle the tops of my pizza bread with grated parmesan and Italian seasoning (I always have a jar of homemade Italian seasoning in the pantry!). You can also use dried parsley or oregano.

Let’s Make Homemade Pizza Bread!

You could call this easy pizza bread a stromboli. A stromboli is an Italian-American recipe for what amounts to a sauce-free pizza that’s rolled up and sliced. It takes just a few steps to make it, which you’ll find below. Scroll down to the recipe card for printable instructions.

  • Prepare the pizza dough. Roll out your pizza dough into a large rectangle. I like to do this right on a lined baking sheet.
  • Fill. Sprinkle on mozzarella cheese, followed by the crumbled sausage. Layer over the pepperoni slices.
  • Roll. Next, roll up the toppings inside the pizza crust. Brush the top of the log with a beaten egg. Finally, sprinkle over parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning.
  • Bake. Bake at 350ºF for 20 minutes. Afterward, give the bread a minute or two to cool off.
  • Serve! Slice the pizza bread into pinwheels, and serve with pizza sauce.

Tips for Success

  • Leave space at the edges. Make sure to leave a ½”-1” border around the edges of the pizza crust when adding the cheese and toppings. This way you can seal the pizza dough after rolling. Also, arrange the log seam-side-down on the baking sheet to keep it from popping open.
  • Don’t overfill the pizza dough. Resist going overboard with the toppings you use to fill your pizza bread. Overfilling can cause the dough to tear.
  • Egg-free. Instead of an egg wash, brush the top of the dough with melted butter or garlic butter.

More Filling Ideas

Roll up your pizza bread with any of the toppings from your favorite pizza recipes. I love changing up this recipe with fillings inspired by a Buffalo chicken pizza, Philly cheesesteak pizza, or even cheeseburger pizza. Here are some other easy topping ideas that you can try:

  • Diced ham or cooked bacon (plus pineapple if Hawaiian pizza is your thing!)
  • Sauteed mushrooms
  • Bell peppers
  • Olives
  • Sun-dried tomatoes
  • Jalapeños
  • Onions

Serving Suggestions

I like to double up my pizza bread recipe on game day and fill a big platter with a side of marinara sauce for dipping! These cheesy bread slices also taste great dunked into homemade ranch dressing. Round out your appetizer spread with more snacks like boneless chicken wings and football cookies for a sweet treat.

During the week, put a fresh spin on pizza night and enjoy this pizza bread alongside a sharing-sized tossed salad or an antipasto salad. My family also can’t get enough of these crispy air fryer green bean fries or air fryer French fries as a side.

Storing and Reheating Leftovers

  • Refrigerate. Store any leftover bread in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. Leftovers taste great cold the next day!
  • Reheat. Warm this bread in the oven or the air fryer for a few minutes (this is best for crisping up the dough again). You can also use the microwave in a pinch.
  • Freeze. Pizza bread freezes great. I’ll often make two loaves, one to enjoy right away and one to stash in the freezer! Let the bread cool completely, wrap it in plastic wrap, and then stick it inside a freezer bag. You can store pizza bread whole or in slices, and defrost it in the fridge before reheating.
