Chocolate Waffles – Dessert for breakfast with these rich and chocolate-y waffles that are crisp on the outside and fluffy and tender on the inside.
I am all about having chocolate for breakfast every day of the week. It can be Chocolate Chip Muffins or it can be full on dessert for breakfast like Double Chocolate Cheesecake Muffins. Don’t worry, I don’t discriminate when it comes to chocolate.

These chocolate waffles are super easy to make and they are like having chocolate cake for breakfast. You can top them with ice cream and Hot Fudge Sauce for an over the top delicious dessert as well.
Plus, these waffles have not only one, but TWO kinds of chocolate! Cocoa powder and chocolate chips are both included to make them decadent and extra yummy. You don’t have to worry about these being super sweet though, there is only 2 Tablespoons of sugar in the entire recipe, so they aren’t going to going to cause any sugar highs!

Waffle Toppings
Chocolate waffles are super versatile to make more like breakfast for more like dessert. So whatever you top them with is up to you!
- Berries – strawberries, raspberries and blueberries are delicious
- Whipped Cream
- Ice Cream
- Nuts
- Strawberry Syrup
- Hot Fudge
- Maple Syrup
- Powdered Sugar
- Raspberry Sauce
You can make these waffles in a more traditional square waffle iron or a Belgian style waffle maker. It works in both, it really is just your preference.

Storage
If you have leftover waffles you can store in an airtight container in the fridge. Then you reheat you can use a toaster or a toaster oven to get them warm and crispy again.
Did you know you can also Freeze Waffles. I take the leftover waffles and put them on a cookie sheet in the freezer for an hour or two. Once they are frozen transfer them to a freezer safe plastic bag and then you can have waffles any morning of the week!

Chocolate waffles would be a huge hit in my house!
Erin, these look so good! A nice idea for Mother’s Day! I think I’d top mine with a dollop of peanut butter and sliced bananas 🙂
What a wonderful breakfast!! I could go for these now and I’m not even hungry!
I love chocolate and waffles…so why not get both in one bite?!?!? Love this…especially with those gorgeous berries! I saw Bridesmaids with my BFF in the theater last summer, but Michael just saw it for the first time when it came on HBO a couple of weeks ago. He cracked up too…it’s like the female version of The Hangover, yes?
How many calories are in these?
I just added up the ingredients, and came up with about 230 calories per waffle. I made 12 waffles for me.
I’m not a big waffle gal, but chocolate waffles I totally get – yum!!
Chocolate waffles is a favorite at our house and we feel like we are eating dessert for breakfast. Nice recipe and photos 🙂
I have never had chocolate waffles before, but this looks so decadent. Perfect for weekends in my opinion.
I like my breakfasts (especially on the weekends!) to be a little sweet too…and these chocolate waffles look perfect!
Yummmm!!
I have a friend who made her husband chocolate waffles on Valentine’s Day for dinner. She’s a bit of a health nut, and well, her husband is not, so he was expecting some ‘healthy’ dinner. When he came home to waffles & ice cream for dinner, he was so shocked!
So sweet 🙂
