Margarita Jello Shots

Margarita Jello Shots – the perfect fun addition to your next party! Turn margaritas into Jello shots with just a few simple ingredients and they are ready to no time.

I love margaritas, they are just the such a refreshing and fun cocktail to have. You can also turn the margarita flavor into other fun treats like these Frozen Margarita Squares as well.

I always thought of Jello shots as something only for college students to get drunk faster. But that is not the case at all! There really isn’t that much alcohol in each shot, so they are perfect for the taste and fun, but not actually getting too much alcohol.

This recipe uses both tequila and margarita mix, so you really get the taste of a margarita in them. And you could easily mix up the flavor. I like lime Jello for the Classic Margarita flavor. But if you are more of a Strawberry Margarita fan, you can use strawberry Jello.

What You’ll Need

  • Lime Jello
  • Tequila
  • Margarita Mix
  • Boiling Water

For the Jello shots I like to use 2-ounce condiments cups. You can buy them on Amazon for a reasonable price. I like that they have a lid, so you can make them ahead and store them in the fridge without them drying out.

How To Make Margarita Jello Shots

  1. Mix together boiling water and the lime Jello in a bowl until it is fully dissolved. Stir well for about 2 minutes for this to happen.
  2. Pour in tequila and margarita mix until well combined.
  3. Pour evenly into 16 2-ounce cups and place in the fridge for about 2 hours, or until they are completely set.

What Tequila To Use

These will taste strong when you first have them, but there really isn’t that much alcohol in each shot. But because that is a dominating flavor, you want to use something good, a high quality tequila. If you use the super cheap stuff, you will taste it and not enjoy it.

I like to use a white tequila like Patron or Don Julio. But if you have a favorite, by all means go for it.

If you want to make Strong Jello Shots you can eliminate the margarita mix and use 1 cup of tequila. Or you can play with the ratio of margarita mix to tequila. You just need 1 cup total of liquid to mix in, so you get 16 shots, and they set up properly.

How Long Do Jello Shots Take To Set

I find they take about 2 hours until they are set. This will depend a little on how full they are. If you mostly fill a 2-ounce cup, they will take the full 2 hours. Sometimes it can be a little longer if fill them fuller or depending on the temperature they are when you put them in the fridge.

How Long Do Jello Shots Last

They will last for about a week in the fridge. So they are great to make ahead and have waiting for your get together. This is why I really like the condiment cups, because you can cover them and they will last just fine, the flavor won’t change and they won’t take on any odors from the fridge.

How Many Jello Shots Does It Make

If you use a 3-ounce box of Jello, you will get 16 shots. You can easily double it and use a 6-ounce of Jello, doubling the rest of the ingredients as well, and get 32 shots. It is entirely up to you how many you need for your get together.
