Watermelon Lemonade is a sweet, tart and refreshing and super easy to make all summer long!
Take advantage of super fresh summer watermelon to make the most delicious and refreshing drink you are going to have on repeat this year. It is perfect for any get together, after spending the day at the pool, or just in from mowing the lawn.
You can start with freshly squeezed lemons that you make Homemade Lemonade from, or you can take a shortcut and use any type of mix or premade lemonade that you like. It really can be that simple.
But trust me, adding the watermelon is going to make you re-think all things lemonade!
Why You’ll Love This Watermelon Lemonade
- Easy – You can make this as easy as you want. Squeeze your lemons for a homemade lemonade, or use a mix or premade variety. It really is up to you!
- Refreshing – The perfect balance of sweet and tart make this the ultimate cold drink, just pour over ice for a delicious drink.
- Mix It Up – You really are just adding fruit juice to lemonade, so you can get creative with whatever fruits you like. Raspberry Lemonade is a favorite here as well.
What You’ll Need
Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post for the FULL PRINTABLE recipe card.
- Lemons – fresh squeezed lemon juice is best, skip the bottled kind for this recipe.
- Cold Water
- Sugar – you can control the amount of sugar you use. If it is a super sweet watermelon, you may need a little less.
- Watermelon
Shortcut
If you are looking to save time, you can add the pureed watermelon juice into 1 liter of premade lemonade. You can use crystal light if you want zero added sugar, or you can use a pre-made bottle from the store.
How To Make Watermelon Lemonade
- Puree. Cut your watermelon into cubes, you want to make sure it is seedless, or remove the seeds. Add the cubes to a food processor and process until nice and smooth. Pour mixture through a strainer, so you are left with just watermelon juice.
- Squeeze. Squeeze a few lemons until you have about 1/2 cup of lemon juice, make sure you don’t have any seeds in there.
- Mix. In a pitcher mix together lemon juice, watermelon juice, water and sugar until the sugar is dissolved and everything is well combined.
- Chill. Store in the fridge to get nice and cold, or pour over ice to serve immediately.
Recipe Tips & Variations
- Make Ahead. You want this to get nice and cold, so you can definitely make it a day a head of time or the morning you want to serve it. Just give it a good stir when it is time to serve.
- Mix up the fruit. You can use any fruit you like to make a refreshing summer drink. Peach Lemonade, Sparkling Berry Lemonade, Strawberry Lemonade are all fun options.
- Fresh Lemons. Fresh lemon juice really does make for the best results. There are just no other added ingredients and you get the true lemon flavor. But I get it, convenience wins out sometimes! So the powdered mix or the premade kind definitely works. You want about 5 cups of watermelon to 1 liter of lemonade if you go this route.
- Grown Up Version. Want to make a version for the adults? Vodka Lemonade is a classic, or you could add gin as well.
- Watermelon Juice. 5 cups of cubed watermelon should give you approximately 3 cups of watermelon juice after you strain it.
This is totally normal, so don’t worry. Just give it a good stir before serving. But this will happen as it sits for awhile, and it is nothing to worry about.
Yes, you can. See the notes in the Recipe Tips section for measurements and how to make it.
Lemon is very tart, so you do need to sweeten it if you are making homemade lemonade. But you can use honey or maple syrup (the taste will be a little different) or you could use monk fruit or other alternative sweeteners as well.
